About Durmitor National Park
Durmitor National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in northwestern Montenegro, a vast mountainous region of dramatic limestone peaks, pristine forests, and 48 glacial lakes. The park is centered on the town of Žabljak, the highest town in the Balkans at 1,456 metres above sea level.
The park's crown jewel is Bobotov Kuk, the highest peak in Montenegro at 2,523m, which looms over the landscape like a guardian. Other highlights include the famous Crno Jezero (Black Lake) — the largest and most visited of the glacial lakes — and the dramatic Tara River Canyon on the park's northern border.
Durmitor is a year-round destination. Summer offers hiking, mountain biking, and rafting in pristine wilderness. Winter transforms it into a ski resort destination with modern infrastructure at the Durmitor/Štuoc ski centre and the larger Kolašin 1450 resort nearby.
